Outline Every year thousands of refugees leave their country in hope of fulfilling their
dreams abroad. This film is the story of their shared experiences, idealisms, realities and their crass confrontation with western culture. "The Tune of Nostalgia" directed and produced by Joseph Hovsepian is a
105 minute feature film in Persian, with English sub-titles. The movie is based
on a true story of a refugee, leaving his country- looking for a refuge.
The Story "The Tune of Nostalgia" trails the life of Vahid Akhbari, a young Iranian who
leaves
Iran in search of success in the West. While in
Europe
, Vahid does not find the riches and success he thought the West would present,
but is instead crassly confronted with the lonely desperation shared by all who
live the refugee life. Vahid’s search for meaning eventually leads him to find his refuge in the most
unexpected place. “This film is based upon the true life experiences of
Iranian refugees in
Austria ,” says writer and producer Joseph Hovsepian who spent time in the refugee
camps in
Austria after the martyrdom of his father Haik Hovsepian, former superintendent of
churches in
Iran . “The script was developed from their real life conversations and the story
from their shared experience.”
Awards "The Tune of Nostalgia" has won the award for "Best Foreign
Movie" at San Francisco's WYSIWYG film festival.

Theatrical opening:
"The Tune of Nostalgia" opened in Glendale Cinemas and within two weeks brought
an audience of 4,000 to Glendale Cinemas. Some came from Las Vegas to see the
movie, to better visualize what they'd heard about refugee camps.
The fact that most actors in the movie were refugees, as well as the documentary footages of the camp,
brought a REAL identity to the movie. The majority of the audience from
different ages and nationalities connected to a part of the story.
Audience Comments:
- I loved the movie it was really great. Even though I left Iran when I was
just a little child I still understand the language.
- I 'd like to congradulate you and the wonderful cast of "The Tune Of Nostalgia"
on a job well done . Our family has gone to see the movie and was deeply touched by the story line and the recreation of the struggles the refugees have to deal with to get to America. It also brought back memories of Austria and the friends. I hope the film will be successful in reaching audiences across the nation, as your film has gone on to boost our pride as fellow Iranians and Armenians .We all wish you great success in the future.
Keep up the great work.
- My family and I saw the movie "The Tune of Nostalgia" last night and we were all greatly touched by the many talents that God has gifted your family. I just want to encourage you to continue using your gifts as I know many will be blessed. I had the honor of knowing your father from Iran and I'm sure that he is very proud of you
all.
- " Hello! I would like to start off by saying congratulations! To be honest the movie got
to me very much because of the way every individual acted their scene. May every moment of yours and your brother's life be filled with happiness. Also
I would like to inform your brother on what a GREAT musician he is and how beautiful he played from the bottom of his heart and a very
hansom man."
